Foundations: Haul Road Design

Foundations: for graduate and early-career Mining Engineers and transitioning mining technical professionals.

In this course, you will learn how to design haul roads and intersections to improve material flow according to mine schedules.
  • Run Time

    6-8 hours
  • Real World Applications

    Developed with industry experts
  • Graduate Level

    0-3 years experience
  • Video Playtime

    15 minutes

What's Included

KEY TECHNICAL SKILL

Modify an existing haul road network, and identify appropriate intersection layouts to safely improve material flow across a haul road network.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify how material flows safely and efficiently in a haulage network on a mine site.
  • Describe the risks and benefits associated with different intersection layouts.
  • Select an intersection layout option to improve material flow while minimising risk.
This course explores the foundational theories of haul road design. We review some of the fundamental design standards and processes used to develop efficient haul roads. We also investigate the design of haul road intersections and how design features are used to prioritise ‘primary flow’.

By the end of the course, you will have a fundamental understanding of haul road design and how intersections can be designed to improve the efficiency of haul networks.
